1. In 1961 the 18 members of the US figure skating team boarded a plane to travel to Belgium on their way to the world championships in Czechoslovakia. As the plane approached Brussels the weather was good but something was wrong with the plane. Twice it descended as if to land but pulled up and ascended again. The second time it exploded and crashed to the ground. All 83 people on the plane were killed and there were ten families that had lost at least two dear members. The crash site was a scene of total destruction. Later three pairs of melted skates were found dangling from one of the wings. The competition in Prague was cancelled to honor the dead. Never before had such a terrible tragedy occurred in the sport of skating.

2. I'd like to tell a disaster that happened to one of my cousins years ago when she was in her early twenties. She had a boy friend living in a city 40 miles away from our town. They often traveled between the town and the city to see each other. One day my cousin finished all her work early. So she decided to see her boy friend. She went to the bus station and managed to get on a crowded bus. Just 15 minutes after the bus pulled out of the station, it collided with a truck. The collision was so serious that the bus caught fire and was in a ball of flames immediately. The fire was so horrible and it was so quick. Two persons were burned to death on the spot. All the others got serious injuries. Of them my cousin was the most seriously injured. She lost consciousness for over 20 days and she looked so frightening. Later under the care of the doctors and the family members, she survived. But she had to have a serious of operations. And the family spent a lot of money taking her to Shanghai for several times to receive treatment. It was really a disaster.
