B. Read each of the following paragraphs and identify its organisational pattern. Write the name of the pattern (time order or space order) in the space provided. Underline the signal words.

1. The first major feature we can see on the map is that the Appalachian Mountains do not run north to south but northeast to southeast. Therefore, in the Northeast, the land extending to the Atlantic coastline is mountainous and rocky. In the deep South, there is a wide plain between the mountains and the sea. In the central area, there are plains on the coast which give way rapidly to the foothills of the Appalachians and then to the mountains themselves.

2. Another day passed and then a whole week. All he heard from Agassiz each day was a friendly "Good morning." At last Shaler began to draw the ugly creature. In doing so he discovered many new things. Finally on the seventh day came the question, "Well?"

3. Do you remember travelling in a car when you were a child? All children share the same opinion about which seats are good and bad. The middle back seat is universally known to be the pits. Your knees are pressed and your view is blocked everywhere unless you face backward. In the front middle seat at least you get a view through the windshield. The two side seats in the back are about as good as you are likely to get. Heaven, though, is the front side passenger seat: fantastic views and radios to play with. Unfortunately, you seldom get control of that seat from adults.
