When
summer vacation finally arrived, the initial excitement of sleeping
in and doing whatever, whenever, was almost too much to handle.
The doors of opportunity were open, and you were ready
to venture off into the best summer of your life.
Now where are you?
I bet a good 75 percent of you are sitting at home watching
TV and whining: "I'm bored."
Well, my friends, I am here to end your boredom.
Here is my top 10 list to get rid of the boredom and get
your butt off the couch.
GO SEE A MOVIE
I know it is just exchanging a couch for a chair, but it
will force you to socialize with more than just 2D people.
EXERCISE
You don't need a membership to a gym to burn those pesky
calories. There are parks that allow you to use their facilities
for free.
SWIM
It is Florida, and lately the sun has been pretty brutal.
For those of you who don't have a pool, try some of the springs.
Juniper Springs has a swimming hole, and Rainbow Springs provides
tubing.
LEARN
Don't raise your eyebrows. Just because school's out for
a couple of months doesn't mean we have to go braindead. The
libraries welcome you.
GO SEE A PLAY
The Civic Theatre usually has a show running. Check one out.
I recently saw a musical there and it was great.
GO BOWLING
This is a great thing to do with a group of friends. Some
bowling alleys offer midnight bowling. This is a definite
plus with music and more.
READ A BOOK
I am well aware many of us have required summer reading,
but take the free time you have left over to read something
for fun. Grab a mystery or romance novel.
PLAY GOLF
If you're like me and can't tell the difference between a
driver and a putter, then head over to Easy Street. Don't
be afraid to be little again and have fun with the video games.
EXPLORE
Take this time to get to know your town. If you have a car,
learn some new streets or window shop. If you are stranded
at home, see if there is anybody your age that lives near
you, or get to know the people across the street.
VOLUNTEER
This is a great way to spend your summer. You get to know
your community and and rack up those community-service hours.
There are plenty of places to volunteer if you hunt around
a little.
