　　( In this part, we will do writing practice on how to achieve brevity or how to avoid repetition by means of ellipsis(省略法). We will make an introduction to ellipsis and then require you to rewrite some sentences in a brief and clear way. )

Contraction: ellipsis
　　言以简洁为贵。在英语写作中，我们应该注意如何避免重复，达到语言简练的目的。
省略是使语言简洁的手段之一，但省略应看具体情况，能省则省，在简洁的同时语言还
应明了。省略大致分为以下几类：
1）句中有相同的并列成分，后面的相同成分则可以省略，如省去相同的主语或谓语等。
　　He can have lunch at school and (he can have ) supper at home.

2) 省略重复的动词，常用do来代替动词。
　　Mary speaks English more fluently than her brother does (speaks English).

3）用so代替hope, think, imagine, believe等词引导的宾语从句，not则代替否定的宾语从句。
　　A: Does she like it?
　　B: I think so (that she likes it).

4）用to代替不定式。
　　His parents won't allow him to go to the cinema though he likes to.
