Writing Skill
要获取段落的连贯性,就必须注意句子与句子之间的衔接。如果我们根据各句要表达的意思, 使用恰当的关联词标示出句间的逻辑关系,就会使句与句之间的衔接得到加强。本节中主要介绍作关联词的并列连词。
一. 表示意义转折和对比的并列连词
常见的有:but, yet, still, however。
例如:The bike was quite old but it was in excellent condition.
二. 表示选择的并列连词
常见的有:or, either…or, 等。
例如:Heat the water or it will freeze.
三. 表示因果意义的并列连词
常见的有:for, so, therefore, thus 等。
例如:It rained, therefore the game was called off.
四. 表示联合关系的并列连词
常见的有:and, both…and, neither…nor, not only…but also, as
well as等。
例如:Neither the students nor the teacher has read the paper.

Combination: Using Connectives (关联词)
Reread the following sentences from the text of this unit carefully
and study the functions (作用) of the connectives (underlined) :
------You do well enough in school, but you probably think you will
never be a top student. This is not necessarily the case, however.
------It may be a desk or a chair at home or in the school library,
but it should be comfortable, and it should not have distractions.
------Furthermore, it will enable you to plan your activities so
that you have adequate time for both work and play.
------Review important points mentioned in class as well as you remain
confused about.
