Lesson Fourteen APOLOGIES(II)

Part C: Oral Practice
  ( Let's continue oral practice related to apologies, and this time we will learn how to give a specific explanation or a reasonable excuse. So in the following situations, you should provide the reasons or excuses you can think of. )
I. An apology is usually followed by a brief explanation or an excuse. Supply reasonable excuses for the following situations.
1. You cannot join your friends in an outing.
Clues:

 1)Your mother is sick with the flu and you have to take care of her.
 2)You have friends coming to visit you.
 3)You have a paper to write.

2. You have kept your friend waiting for half an hour.
Clues:

 1)You were held up by traffic.
 2)Your watch stopped.
 3)You were just going out when somebody came for a visit.
 
Assignment
   (In this unit, we have learned how to make an apology and how to decline others' invitation. And in the following exercises, we give you some relevant homework to help you consolidate what you have learned.)
Direction: In the following table, there are some situations in which you have to say "no". Give the appropriate reasons you can think of.
