Word Building

    (In this unit we will learn more about the affixation of word-formation in English. You already know that the suffix –ly can be added to adjectives to form adverbs, but it can also be added to nouns to form adjectives, with the meaning “like in manner, nature, or appearance”)

e. g.
  
saint + -ly,             ®saintly:  like a saint;  very holy

  friend + -ly,            ®friend1y:  of a friend; kind

 
I.Directions: Now form adjectives by adding -1y to the nouns listed below and then use them in the following sentences:
