Cloze
 
     Cloze is one method of testing reading comprehension. Efficient reading requires reading skills. The following exercise will help you to improve your reading ability. It consists of two parts. In part A the initial letter of missing words is given. In this case, the students are generally informed that each dash in the blank signifies a letter. It is not only a clue to but also a prerequisite for the exercise. They are the most significant content words. To a certain degree, it is a test of vocabulary. In part B, there is no obvious clue to each blank. But the passage supplies adequate guidelines to you. The framework is sufficient to guide the student. They are either content words or function word (功能词). It is more difficult than part A. When doing this kind of exercise you need to go over the whole passage for the first time so that you get the main idea of the whole text. Based on your understanding, you fill in each blank with your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, etc.
